New Year...New Experiences

The New Year always brings people to terms with things that they want to change about themselves or things they want to improve on. It seems that weight management is a popular and often prickly topic for most. So, after my last doctor's visit, I was so shocked to see the numbers on the scale! I couldn't believe that I had gained so much weight in the six months since I moved from Miami to a new city, I managed to gain 28 pounds.

So my best friend had been going on about how much she wanted to read the book titled:  Skinny Bitch by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin.  I decided to buy the book and follow the vegan diet included. It was not a problem for me to transition into veganism, already abstaining from pork, red meat and milk since I was 15 years old. I made the commitment to follow the diet included in the Skinny Bitch book and began my journey on December 1st. From then to now, I have lost 11.5 pounds, of course, including exercise as well.

My ultimate goal is to lose 40 lbs in total, that will place me on the verge of my ideal weight for my weight and height.

Struggling with the same issue, my best friend decided to enroll herself (and me) in a weight management program. I was skeptical at first, never having taken part in any of these programs. The closest to anything regimented was having been put on the South Beach Diet by my gastroenterologist in order to ease my stomach ulcers and reduce my AST levels.  The South Beach diet did help me and my ulcers and it allowed me to lose close to 30 lbs.

I am keeping an open mind and positive attitude.  My goal in blogging about my experience, is to let you know that these programs are adaptable to any type of eating habits (including vegans).

It is week two for me on this program and I have lost 0.2 pounds so far at my last weigh-in.

My best friend lost 5 lbs, her first week in the program even though she did not have time to diligently exercise.

So here is the road, and I am ready to begin this journey. I hope that it inspires you to take risks and make the effort to experience new things during this new year.
